CENTRAL KANSAS YOUTH RODEO ASSOCIATION UPDATE

CANTON – The summer is beginning to wind down but the for several McPherson County youth the fun is still rolling along as the Central Kansas Youth Rodeo Association continues to hold rodeo events in Canton.

With the second event of the season in early June being cancelled due to weather, the CKYRA made it through their rodeo event of July 8-9 without missing a step, barrel, pole, goat, or steer.

On Saturday, July 8 area rodeo winners included Korbin Hogg of Canton who won the Goats/Girls in the 2-4 Division, Levi Henry of Canton for both Breakaway and Goats/Boys in the 5-8 Division, and Asa Courtney of Canton for Goat Tying in the 9-12 Division. Faith McMannis of Canton also won in the 5-8 Team Heading though she did not collect points for the all-around standings. For the day, McPherson area youth had thirty top-five finishes spread out over the four divisions.

Asa Courtney won her second straight Goat Tying at the Sunday, July 9 event, while Katy Prieb of Canton took first in Barrel Racing, both in the 9-12 division. Kaylee Rafaelsen of McPherson took first in the 5-8 division for Goats/Girls, Kaylor Rouse of Galva won Pole Bending in the 2-4 division while 40 area youth reached top five finishes for the day.

After two weekend rodeo events in 2023, eight area youth held the top spot of an event in their respective divisions led by Levi Henty of Canton for leading in both the Breakaway and Goats/Boys in the 5-8 division. Also leading an event in the 5-8 division are Lennon Graber of Moundridge in Pole Bending, and Kaylee Rafaelsen in Goats for girls. In the 9-12 division, Wyatt Henry of Canton leads in Chute Dogging and Lakyn Allenbach of Moundridge is tops in Goat Tying while Kaylor Rouse in Goats/Boys and Jovey Henry of Canton in Goats/Girls hold leads in the 2-4 division. Overall, 42 area youth hold a top-five ranking in an event.

Four area youth held first place in the All-Around point standings after two events with Korbin Hogg of Canton in 2-4 Girls Division with 158 points, Levi Henry in the 5-8 Boys Division with 94, Kaylee Rafaelsen in the 5-8 Girls with 97 and Keaton Ryan of Canton in the 9-12 Boys with 72. A total of eleven area youth rank in the top five all-around points after two events.

The CKYRA will have another rodeo event in July during the weekend of the 29-30 before holding an event the weekend of August 5-6 as the makeup for the rainout in June. They will then end their 2023 season on the weekend of August 12-13 with the Finals Event.
