Finished 15-20, Alcala / Hawkinson Lead Stats

CANTON – After a solid start to the season, the Canton/Galva volleyball team stumbled some in the final four weeks and went from 12-11 toward the end of September to finishing the season at just 15-21 after going just 3-10 in the final four scheduled events, including sub-state.
After going just 1-3 in their own Invitational at the end of September, the Lady Eagles closed out the season by splitting a pair at a triangular before losing five straight at the WOPL/WSL Challenge Tournament and then going 1-1 at the Class 1A Division I sub-state in Little River, eventually closing the season with a sub-state loss to eventual State Champion Little Rive
Among the final 11 losses were four matches with eventual state champion Little River.
But the future looks bright for Lady Eagle head coach Jessica Putman next season as of the 11 players listed on the 2023 roster, only two (Carley Schmidt and Emma Herrera) are seniors. The remaining roster was covered by a pair of juniors, six sophomores and talented freshman Londyn Dietrich.
Among the two juniors is Raegan Hawkinson who transferred in at the beginning of the season from Elyria Christian and immediately made an impact on the team and season. Hawkinson closed out the 2023 season leading the Lady Eagles in four categories with 33 service aces, 196 kills, 21 blocks and 247 digs. Hailey Barton is the other roster junior, and she finished second to Hawkinson in blocks with 20 with landing third in kills with 85.
The main sophomore was Adi Alcala who directed much of the offensive attacks in 2023 as she dished out 467 assists.
In kills, sophomore Trinity Espinoza recorded 155 while making 171 digs, third on the team as sophomore Jayden Orth was second on the team with 241.
For the season, Hawkinson, Alcala, Barton and Orth tied for the team high in sets played with 71 while Londyn Dietrich had 70.
