CANTON/GALVA SPIKERS DROP PAIR AT ELYRIA

Hawkinson, Alcala, Barton Lead Lady Eagles

ELYRIA – The Canton/Galva volleyball team stumbled a bit on Thursday while on a road trip to Elyria where they dropped a pair of closely, hard fought matches to Elyria Christian.

In the first match the Lady Eagles went three sets each settled by less than four points, before losing to Elyria 1-2, dropping the first set 22-25 then bouncing back to win by two-points, 25-23 in set two before losing by four-points, 21-25 in the third set.

Adi Alcala directed the Canton/Galva offense with 31 assists, Jayden Orth, Raegan Hawkinson, and Makinlee Hopps punched out 24, 23 and 18 digs respectively as the team recorded 101 digs in the three sets. Hawkinson and Hailey Barton each made 13 kills as well.

The Lady Eagles dropped the second match in straight sets, losing set one by four, 21-25 and set two by five, 20-25.

Among the team leaders for the second match were Trinity Espinoza with a dozen digs, Raegan Hawkinson for scoring six kills and Adi Alcala for handing out 13 assists.

Now 7-8 on the season, the Lady Eagles will be on the road Saturday, September 23 at the Herington Invitational.
