NEW COACH, FULL ROSTER FOR C/G LADY EAGLES IN 2024/25

By Staff
CANTON – The Canton/Galva girls basketball program that finished 2023/24 with a record of 12-9 before losing in the sub-state semi-finals, will be under new leadership while working with a team that returns intact except for a couple of transfer outs.
Now under new leadership, the Lady Eagles will be led by head coach David Ediger, a man with experience at both the high school and collegiate level. Ediger has a career mark of 330-109 with time as head boys coach in Ashland and Meade, head girls coach at Cimarron and the junior varsity men’s coach at Tabor College.
The only losses from the roster in 2023/24 will be Ada Alcala, who transferred to Inman, and Hailey Barton who now plays at Centre.
“We have a good group of experienced players returning,” noted coach Ediger. “They have played a lot of basketball.”

Among the key returnees will be senior Rae Hawkinson at the post, a pair of junior guards Trinity Espinoza and Makinlee Hoppes, along with junior forward Emerson Hoppes and sophomore guard/forward Malia Hoppes.
Among the top newcomers that coach Ediger noted as players to watch were three freshmen in Faith McMannis, Honesty Williams, and Brynn Kruse.
While finishing his preview thoughts of the upcoming season, coach Ediger added, “We will have the team learning a totally new system which will present some challenges early. But let me tell you, I like this group of girls.”
The Lady Eagles will open the season on Friday, December 6 hosting Rural Vista before playing in the Goessel Bluebird Classic the week of December 9-14 before finishing out the pre-holiday schedule at home with Marion on Monday, December 16 and on the road at Centre on Friday, December 20.
