EAGLES LOSE BY 2 TO SOLOMON

By Staff
CANTON – It was a tough, heartbreaking loss for the Canton/Galva youthful football team as they dropped a home game on Friday by just 2-points, 38-36 to Solomon.
“This was a tough loss for us,” explained Eagle head coach Ted Reghr. “We talked all week how important this game was for us as it was one of two games we needed to win to make the post season playoffs. We had a really good week of practice, and we felt like the kids were prepared to go out and perform well. It was a great game on both sides of the ball.”
Both teams put a score on the board in the first quarter as Noah Collins broke lose for a 12-yard run for the Eagles.
Jaxon Chrislip scored twice, and Camden Kruse had one run for touchdowns for Canton/Galva in the second quarter with the Eagles getting a two=point conversion to take a two-point, 28-26 lead into the halftime break.
While the Eagles failed to find paydirt in the third quarter, Solomon scored on another big play to take a 32-28 advantage into the final quarter where they scored again to lead by 10 at 38-28 when Chrislip hit Ethan Brozek on a 20-yard pass play for a score. The Eagles failed to make the tw0-point conversion to tie the game and lost by two.
In the game, the offensive attacks by both teams rolled up 752 yards on 115 snaps with the Eagles gathering up 354 yards on 62 offensive plays while Solomon recorded 398 yards on 53 plays.
Defensively, the Eagles gave up 229 yards through the air and 169 on the ground as they were led in tackling by Jaxon Nightingale and Jaxon Chrislip.
On offense, Canton/Galva had 213 yards rushing with Jaxon Chrislip accounting for 112. Chrislip also completed nine-of-sixteen passes for 136 yards.
“Defensively, we played so well and executed the game plan for the most part,” pointe out coach Reghr. “We had a few mistakes that led to big plays for them that were momentum swingers. Offensively, we knew we were going to have to put together quality drives and move the ball down the field and we did most of the game. I did not make the right in-game adjustments to capitalize on some opportunities that we could have taken advantage of.”
Coach Reghr concluded his post-game reflections by saying, “Super proud of our guys on how they competed and fought to the end. We were down 10 late in the game and in a fourth-down play when our quarterback, Jaxon Chrislip, threw the ball up and underclassman Ethan Brozek made an all-state type catch for a touchdown. Our defense went out on the field and played lights out to force a punt. As I coach, I did not make the right play calls to give our guys a legit shot to win the game at the end. We must regroup and get back to work on Monday.”
Now 2-5 for the season, the Eagles will close out the regular season schedule with a pair of road games at Goessel on Friday, October 25 and at Frankfort on Friday, November 1.
