YOUTHFUL EAGLES TUMBLE TO CENTRAL CHRISTIAN

By Staff

CANTON – It was not the season home debut the youthful Canton/Galva football team imagined on Friday as they played host to Hutchinson Central Christian and took a tumble to the tune of a 48-0 shutout loss.

“Was not a pretty game for us,” noted first year Eagle head coach Ted Reghr. “We were physically out matched, plus they were more experienced than we were in playing seven seniors. The speed and physicality of the game got the better of our underclassmen and first-time varsity players.”

The Cougars scored 42 first quarter points and then added six more in the third quarter in the domination of the youthful Eagles.

Working with a roster whose makeup is nearly 80% sophomores and freshman, Canton/Galva was up against a Cougar team that featured 11 seniors. Central Christian rolled up 326 yards in offense against the Eagles, including 212 on the ground while the Eagles had just 34 yards in offense on 24 offensive plays.

Freshman quarterback Jaxon Chrislip led the Eagles in rushing with 24 yards and completed just a pair of passes of a net of just two yards.

Coach Reghr concluded his reflections on the humbling game by adding, ‘We did not do enough of the little things right to compete. Our kids are continuing to be coachable and are working hard to fix the things we need to. With more game experience, they will eventually get to where we want to be as a team, it just may take a few more games.”

Now 1-1 for the season, the Eagles travel to Wakefield on Friday. Wakefield is 2-0 and will be coming off a 10-point win over Solomon.
