EAGLES WIN FIRST GAME OF SUBSTATE

CANTON – Bouncing back from first half offensive struggles, the Canton/Galva boys used the third and fourth quarters to outscore Flint Hills 35-17 on their way to a 63-51 victory in the first round of sub-state play on Tuesday.

Now 12-9 for the season, the Eagles will now battle top-seed Olpe on Monday, March 3 in game two of their sub-state playoffs. Olpe is ranked number two in Class 1A Division I.
The score was tied at 12-12 at the end of the first quarter before Flint Hills gathered up a six-point, 28-34, advantage at the halftime break. The Eagles put 21 points on the board in the third quarter to take a five-point, 49-44, lead into the fourth quarter where they finished out the final 12-point, 63-51 win.
Jaxon Nightingale led the Eagles in scoring with 17 points while Ethan Brozek hit four three-pointers on his way to scoring 16. Jase Beltz also reached double digits with 13 points and Kustom Schamp just missed with nine.
