With the wins, the Eagle boys are now 6-6 for the season ana the Lady Eagles are above .500 at 7-6. The Eagle boys have a busy week with games on the road at Herington on Tuesday before hosting Peabody/Burns on Friday and Linn on Saturday. The Lady Eagles only play Herington and Linn.

For the Lady Eagles, they fell behind by a pair, 9-11, at the end of the first quarter before shutting out Wakefield in the second quarter, 14-0, to take a 23-11 advantage into the halftime break. After adding a few points, 36-21, to the lead by the end of the third, Canton/Galva finished out the 14-point win.

“Our pressure really bothered them once we took away the long pass on the press,” explained Lady Eagle head coach David Ediger. “Our halfcourt trap sped them up and we were able to cause several turnovers which in turn generated some offense. We moved the ball well against their zone, getting the  ball inside for some easier buckets while opening up the outside shot and driving opportunities.”

Faith McMannis led the Lady Eagle on offense with 15 points while both Rae Hawkinson and Trinity Espinoza each scored 11. Both McMannis and Hawkinson connected on three three-pointers in the game.

Coach Ediger concluded his post-game reflections by saying, “I was pleased with some of our sets that we got to run. The girls executed them well, especially given the fact that we have not had the opportunity to run them in game situations much.”

In the boys game, the Eagle also fell behind by a point, 9-10, at the end of the first quarter before outscoring Wakefield 21-15 in the second quarter to take a five-point, 30-25, lead into the halftime break. After pushing the lead to 16 points, 50-34, by the end of the third quarter, the Eagles then cruised in for the final 21-point victory.

Four Eagles reach double digits in the scorebook with Jase Beltz connecting on four three-pointers to lead the team with 16. Ethan Brozek scored 14, Kustom Schamp hit for 12 and Ethan Harrington pitched in with 11.
