CANTON/GALVA EAGLE BASKETBALL

YOUTH WILL KEY SUCCESS FOR C/G EAGLES

By Staff

CANTON – Despite finishing with a 12-12 record in 2023/24 and starting two freshmen, the Canton/Galva boys’ basketball team made the Class 1A Division I state tournament only to lose to eventual state champion Montezuma/South Gray.

Eagle head coach Larry O’Connor is back for year number four where Ted Regehr will assist him, has had a career that includes two state titles at two different schools, Brewster, and Sharon Springs.

The Eagles will need to replace several graduated contributors including Wyatt Collins, Lane McMannis, Jory Ratzlaff, and Ross Burrill.

What Canton/Galva does return is sophomore starting guards Kustom Schamp and Ethan Brozek along with sophomore sixth-man Jaxon Nightingale.

Among the others who will need to step up will be junior Ethan Harrington, seniors Jase Beltz, Garrett Silsby, and Noah Collins along with sophomore’s Ty Herrera, Cane Krase, and Corbin Parsons.

The Eagles could also get some playing time for freshman Cade Schmidt, Dallas Jones, Brayson Speer, Blake Harrington, Dayton Hoppes, and Jaycob Dieker.

Canton/Galva will open the 2024/25 season on Friday, December 6 hosting Rural Vista before playing in the Goessel Bluebird Classic Monday through Friday, December 9-14. They will then conclude the pre-holiday schedule with a home game on Monday, December 16 with Marion, and a road game at Centre on Friday, December 20.
