CANTON – The Canton/Galva girls basketball program enters the holiday break with an even 3 wins against 3 losses after splitting a pair of game this past week.

After suffering a seven-point, 30-37, defeat at Marion on Tuesday, the Lady Eagles bounced back in a huge way with a 57-17 pounding of Centre on Friday.

Now 3-3, the Canton/Galva girls will hit the competitive court again on Friday, January 2 hosting Cunningham before playing an Wakefield on Tuesday and then hosting Elyria Christian on Friday of the first full week of the 2026 side of the schedule.

Here is a summary of the two games played:

TUESDAY, DEC. 16 –  at Marion

While the Lady Eagles did outscore Marion 9-6 in the final quarter of play, it was not enough to avoid a seven-point, 30-37 final loss.

In head coach David Edigers reflections on the game he noted, “Tonight was a very tough loss. We did not play well on either end of the floor and gave up too many offensive rebounds. We just did not come ready to play and will learn from the loss and move on.”

Faith McMannis and Trinity Espinoza led the offense for the Lady Eagles with 13 and 12 points, respectively, as only Mailia Hoppes and Emerson Hoppes scored in the game.

After the break, Canton/Galva began playing the younger players while continuing the build the lead out to the final 40 point, 57-17 victory.

“I was very pleased overall with this group tonight,” explained head coach David Ediger. “We were obviously the better team tonight as I thought the girls played pretty well and not sloppy with the team playing together on both ends of the floor.”

The Lady Eagles found playing time for all 14 girls suited for the game with nine scoring at least two points.

Coach Ediger continued with his post-game reflections by adding, “We got everyone in the game and got a look at a lot of younger players. We were able to mix the junior varsity with the varsity players a bit before letting the junior varsity girls play together. All of that is important when you are trying to develop players and get everyone better.”

Offensively, Trinity Espinoza drilled three of the teams eight three-pointers on her way to scoring 22 points while Faith McMannis and Malia Hoppes each hit a pair of three’s in scoring nine and eight points, respectively.
