C/G EAGLES DOMINATE GOESSEL IN 52-6 WIN

Could not do much better than the Canton/Galva football team in opening their 2026 season with a dominating win over Goessel, 52-6.
On the first offensive play of the season, Eagle quarterback Dray Hoppes ran 60 yards for a touchdown. Goessel got their only score of the game later in the first quarter when they took an intercepted Hoppes pass and scampered 77 yards to the end zone, leaving them just two points down, 8-6, after one quarter of play.
The Eagles added three more scores in the second quarter on another run by Hoppes, a 1-yard dive by Jaxon Chrislip, and a 12-yard scoring pass from Hoppes to Kustom Schamp, to take a commanding 32-6 advantage into the halftime break.
After Chrislip scored again and Hoppes connected with Schamp again for scores in the third quarter, Canton/Galva entered the final quarter with a huge 40-point, 46-6 lead. Chrisp added a 28-yard run to the end zone in the fourth to put the game away early.
“Outside of one bad throw, Hoppes played well in his first start at quarterback,” said Eagles head coach Ted Reghr in discussing the Eagles' offensive success. “Up front, the big guys – Mag Cathey, Wes Prieb, and Jaxon Nightingale – owned the line of scrimmage and made it easy for the backs to find seams and run for a bunch of yards. It was nice to see our offense find the ability to execute and move the football while putting up big yards and points.”
As a team, Canton/Galva rolled up 322 yards in offense with 220 coming on the ground. Hoppes was five-of-six passing and ran for 133 yards on just eight carries to lead the unit.
Defensively, the Eagles held Goessel to 113 yards with 81 coming on runs. Goessel was only able to complete seven-of-seventeen passes, with Canton/Galva’s Dallas Jones grabbing two interceptions. Kustom Schamp, Wes Prieb, Jones and Jaxon Nightingale led the defensive play.
“We played a solid game on defense,” added coach Reghr. “(Wes) Prieb at defensive tackle was a big problem for Goessel as he disrupted what they wanted to do. Dallas (Jones) stepped up big for us in the secondary and getting (Kustom) Schamp back helped due to his size and athleticism. Being able to put a game plan together and execute it was big for us.”
The Eagles now go on the road to play an unknown opponent in Randolph Blue Valley.
