The McPherson football team traveled west to Great Bend to battle the Panthers and were upended, losing 3-21 despite having over 230 yards in offense.

“We did not play as well as we wanted on Friday,” noted Bullpup head coach Jace Pavlovich.

Both teams were unable to get a first-quarter score before Great Bend scored a touchdown and the Bullpups connected on a 32-yard field goal in the second quarter, giving the Panthers a 3-7 lead going into the halftime break.

Great Bend then added a score in each of the third and fourth quarters to earn the final 3-21 win over McPherson.

Quarterback Carter Bengtson managed to throw for 151 yards and ran for another 26 in leading the Bullpup offense. Bengtson also tossed two interceptions. Helping out on offense was Dane Becker, who ran for 52 yards, while both Bo Barkley and Brody Hoffman caught three passes, covering 52 and 32 yards, respectively.

Chase Lowery led the Bullpup defense with nine tackles, with Dylan Hall and Colt Chapman both recording eight.

Finishing up his post-game thoughts, coach Pavlovich added, “We have to get back to work and trust each other to get the job done. This week in practice, we will emphasize the little things that ultimately got us beat against the Panthers.”

Now 1-1 for the season, the Bullpups will battle rival Buhler on Friday. The Crusaders are 2-0 after outscoring Mulvane, 28-23, on Friday.
