EL DORADO – Continuing to build on previous runs, the McPherson cross country teams took some big steps forward by finishing first and third in the team competitions while winning the boys run and getting eight total individual medals on Saturday at the El Dorado Invitational.

“We continued to build on earlier week’s races as nearly half of the team brough home medals today and over half ran season best runs,” noted Bullpup head coach Nikolous Rempe.

The big news came from sophomore Caleb Muehler who ran a 15:52 to finish first among 69 runners for the boys division. In addition to Muehler, Ethan Elder, Kayden Friesen, and Garrett Floyd all earned medals for finishing in the top 25.

Miles Bauer won a medal in the boys junior varsity race for finishing thirteenth.

For the Lady Bullpups, Lexi Patterson placed fourteenth and Eva Ramey finished twenty-fourth as they both medaled among 56 runners. Lindley Jex ran ninth in the girls junior varsity race to also earn a medal.

Team wise, the Bullpup boys placed third with 87 points, just behind runner-up Liberal with 84 and behind invitational champion Wamego with 56. The Lady Bullpups finished fifth with 123 points as Emporia, Liberal, Rose Hill and Winfield rounded out the top five.

Up next for the Bullpup cross country teams will be on Thursday, October 12 in Wichita for the AVCTL (Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League) meet.

Coach Rempe concluded his post-meet reflections by saying, “Both tams have done a great job of pushing themselves in practice the past few weeks and working together towards the goals that they set at the beginning of the season and their hard work is really paying off. We look to carry the momentum from today into the post-season meets over the next three weeks.”
