BUHLER – Running at the Buhler Invitational held in Hutchinson on Thursday, the McPherson cross country team sent 19 runners through the course and brought home five medals.

For the Bullpup boys in the varsity 5K race, they were led by sophomore Caleb Muehler who finished eighth and junior Ethan Elder who placed ninth, earning medals for both. As a team, the Bullpup boys finished fifth behind invite champion Southeast of Saline, Buhler, Hutchinson Trinity and Berean Academy.

The Lady Bullpups finished eighth as a team, well behind invite champion Great Bend. Southeast of Saline and Buhler rounded out the top three.

Individually, Lexi Patterson, a junior, finished twenty-sixth and freshman Ashlyn Schroeder finishing thirty-fifth, led the Lady Bullpups.

“Following a heavier week of training, our average times were a little slower than last week,” noted Bullpup head coach Nikolous Rempe. “But we did a good job of working on the race strategies we had worked on in practice.”

The other three medals came from the Lady Bullpup junior varsity runners as junior Eva Ramey, freshman Amara Dossett and sophomore Lindley Jex earned medals for finishing in the top 20.

Coach Rempe concluded his post-meet reflections by saying, “We had a handful of personal records set this evening and Eva (Ramey), Amara (Dossett), Lindley (Jex), Caleb (Muehler), plus Ethan (Elder) all brough home medals for the races they ran.”

Next up for the Bullpup runners will be on Thursday, September 2 at Goddard with the races being run at Lake Afton Park.
