21 Girls in Top 4 of an Event, 7 for Boys

As the six McPherson County area smaller schools get ready for the 2024 Kansas State track/field meet in Wichita at Wichita State’s Cessna Stadium on Friday and Saturday, six area girls and a pair of boy’s rank top in an event while 28 overall rank in the top four of an event.
In total, area girls will have 20 individuals covering 39 events plus 7 relays with 21 area girls rank in the top four of an event led by Breanne Peters of Smoky Valley having the top ranked pole vault of Class 3A plus ranked second in the 200 meters, long jump, and triple jump.
Cammi Unruh of Moundridge was ranked first in both the Class 2A long jump, and 200 meters plus runs second in the 100 meters.
Havana Olander is ranked first in the Class 1A triple jump while Madilyn Heflin is ranked first in the 300-meter hurdles for Class 2A, and Laney Reiff is ranked first in the Class 1A 1,600 meters.
The Lady Teutons of Inman has eight individuals looking to score team points in 15 events plus two relays, with Katie Nichols, Chloe Schmits, and Brookly Black all being in three events.
Canton/Galva girls have three individuals in three events, Little River has three in five plus a pair of relays, Smoky Valley has three individuals in seven events plus one relay and Moundridge will have three individuals covering seven events plus a pair of relays.
For the boys of the county smaller schools, they will be sending 14 individuals to state covering 21 events plus six relay teams. Of those 14, seven rank in the top four of an event with Kaden Elmore of Moundridge and Andrew Smith of Little River having the top ranking in the 400 meters for Class 2A and Class 1A, respectively.
The Moundridge boys will have eight individuals entering 12 events plus their 4x400 meter relay team. Both Kaden Elmore and Heath Churchill will represent the Wildcats in three individual events.
Blake Robertson will represent Elyria Christian in both the shot put and discus while Lane McMannis is the lone Canton/Galva athlete, running in the 100-, and 300-meter hurdles.
