HAYSVILLE – Going to Haysville on Monday, the McPherson Middle School seventh-grade volleyball teams finished with three wins and one loss over four matches with Haysville West and Buhler Prairie Hills.
The ‘A’ team Junior Lady Pups scored a pair of wins as the beat host Haysville West in three sets (28-26 / 21-25 / 16-14) before closing out the day with a straight set win over Buhler Prairie Hills (25-10 / 25-19). The pair of wins raises the ‘A’ team season mark to 7-2.
“Last night was a good sweep for our ‘A’ team,’ pointed out head coach Destiny Espinoza in some post-match reflections. “We fought hard during our lows and performed well at the net and service line. Honorable mentions go to both our middles, Zayna Busse and Piper Solofra, as they really showed up tonight for their team with energy and lots of good communication.”
The seventh-grade Junior Lady Pups ‘B’ team split their two matches, losing to Haysville West in straight sets (18-25 / 17-25) before bouncing back to handle Buhler Prairie Hills in straight sets, winning 25-15 and 27-25. The split leaves the ‘B’ team with a season mark of 2-6.
“Against Haysville West, we struggled to pass the ball and our serves were inconsistent,” explained ‘B’ team coach Amelia Broadfoot. “With Buhler Prairie Hills we served extremely well and showed great communication and hustle.”
Hadley Bearley served out eight aces for the two matches while HevynLei Aichele-Hernandez, Bayleigh Anderson, and Freya Hecht each made a couple of kills to lead the team.
Both teams have a busy week ahead with another triangular at Salina Lakewood on Thursday and a weekend tournament at Maize.
