22 AREA HARRIERS RUN AT 4 STATE MEETS

McPherson County cross country teams sent 22 runners to compete among 780 runners spread out over four class divisions on Saturday where they brought home one state individual championship, a second top-five finish and five more runners placing in the top-thirty of their classification.

The biggest impact of all 22 runners came from Caleb Muehler of McPherson who used a powerful in the final 100 meters to earn gold by winning the Class 4A boys meet with a time of 15:58.80.

McPherson High School sent a total of 13 runners to the Class 4A event, seven boys and six girls with Lexi Patterson getting a medal and running a season best time of 20:25.20 to finish fourteenth in the girls race.

“I could not be prouder of the way the Bullpups competed today and throughout the season,” noted McPherson head coach Nikolous Rempe. “Both teams had several runners (six total) get season best times including Lexi (Patterson) who shaved nearly a minute and fifteen seconds off her previous best run.”

Laney Reiff of Elyria Christian finished third in the Class 1A girls race with a season best run of 19:22.30. All four of the Lady Eagle runners in the state meet ran season best times.

Little River (Class 1A), Inman (Class 2A), and Smoky Valley (Class 3A) each had one runner competing while Moundridge (Class 2A) had two.
