REDSKIN CROSS COUNTRY COUNTING ON TWO

Obley, Love Running for Little River

By Staff

LITTLE RIVER – It will be done by individuals only for 2023 when it comes to Little River cross country as the team has but two athletes out.

Karen Hull is beginning her sixth season taking charge of the cross-country program and will be facing the loss to graduation of Treyton Olander who not only qualified for the state meet in 2022, but he also finished 18th in doing so.

Besides Olander, the Redskins also lose Addison O’Neil to graduation also, a double loss of senior leadership and varsity experience according to coach Hull.

What coach Hull does have is the return of Brady Obley for his senior season after he got a taste of state by qualifying last fall.

“Brady has worked hard all summer and ran several races so that he would be ready to go this fall,” noted coach Hull. “Last season Brady had Treyton to push him, so he knows what is required to be a top runner. He wants to improve this season and prove that he can run at the next level as he is very goal-oriented and driven.”

The only other runner on the roster for 2023 is junior Harmony Love.

The two Redskin runners open their 2023 season on Thursday, August 31 at Pretty Prairie.

Coach Hull concluded her reflections on the short-manned team and season ahead by saying, “With only two runners, they will have to work hard to push themselves. Distance running is hard enough but without someone to run with each day, both Brady and Harmony will have to focus on the mental toughness and stamina to push themselves to improve each and every day they run. That is a key to each of their success as they have to push from within.”
