MOUNDRIDGE – Moundridge USD 423 Superintendent Cody Rierson and Moundridge Elementary Principal Rebecca Khosravipour recently announced an adventure, a Body Venture, coming soon to Moundridge.

What is the upcoming event for the Moundridge Elementary students, it is the adventure, or should we say the experience, of what is called BODY VENTURE – an exciting immersive experience or tour of the human body!!

On Thursday, December 7 from 8:30 – 11:00 a.m. in the Moundridge elementary school gymnasium, the Moundridge kindergarten through fifth grade students will have the opportunity to experience a fun walk-through featuring 11 blow-up representations of the human body. At each of the 11 stations, the students will learn about the function of that body part from one of the programs volunteer presenters.

According to the manager/coordinator for Body Venture, each of the 11 stations will give the students an opportunity to engage in a five-minute activity that will focus on healthy choices.

The tour begins when groups of eight to ten students enter the school lunchroom and become a type of food such as a carrot, strawberry or maybe a piece of cheese.

In the second station the students will walk through a giant brain where they will experience ‘brain waves’ and learn about brain functions. The ‘foods’ (or students) will then step into the exhibit’s larger-than-life mouth where they are ‘swallowed’ and passed through the esophagus tunnel and move into the stomach.

From the stomach station, students will then travel through the small intestine where they become nutrients that are ‘absorbed’ into the bloodstream.

As ‘nutrients’, the students then follow the path of nutrients to the stations representing the heart, lungs, bones, muscles and skin.

Eventually the students will leave the body through Body Venture’s Pathway to Life. This final station recaps key healthy concepts from each of the 10 previous stations.

Moundridge elementary principal, Rebecca Khosravipour, noted, “The entire trip throughout the exhibit, the students will have the opportunity to learn how to apply the Body Venture Motto to their own life. That motto is ‘EAT SMART, PLAY HARD’.”
