LADY WILDCATS SWEEP SEDGWICK

By Staff

MOUNDRIDGE – On Friday, the Moundridge softball team scored a couple of solid wins with a two-game sweep of Sedgwick at home, winning 13-3 and 9-5.

In game one, Lela Winsor used 117 pitches to hold Sedwick to just five hits while walking just four and striking out 11 to lead the Lady Wildcats to a 13-3 victory.

The Moundridge girls went up 8-3 after three innings and then pushed five more runs across in the sixth to get the 10-run win.

Winsor, Macy Kaminkow, and Sam Strausz each had a pair of hits with Strausz knocking across three runs with a home run.

“We played really well in the first game as Lela (Winsor) pitched well in giving up only a couple of earned runs and striking out eleven,” explained Lady Wildcat head coach Lynn Eichelberger. “Our top three hitters of (Lela) Winsor, (Macy) Kaminkow, and (Sam) Strausz went six-for-eight. We also stole nine bases, bunted runners to the next base, and continued to put pressure on the Sedgwick defense all afternoon.”

After taking a 4-2 lead after two innings in game two, the Lady Wildcats fell behind 4-5 in the top of the third inning until they tied the game up with a run in the fifth and then scored four times in the bottom of the sixth to gain the final four-run victory.

Struasz continued to put on an offensive show as she went three-for-three with a pair of runs batted in and a triple to lead the Moundridge offense.

Coach Eichelberger concluded his reflections on the games by adding, “In the second game, we continued to play good defense behind Winsor on the mound. I thought Izzy (Durst), our freshman shortstop, played really well in making all the plays that came her way. Sam (Strausz) continued to hit the ball well and we stole another eight bases as we ran the bases well again.”
