MARION – On Thursday, the Little River softball team opened their 2024 season with a pair of high scoring wins over Marion.
In game one, the Lady Redskins fell behind 2-3 after three innings but tied it up at 3-3 in the fourth. The two teams finished the regular seven innings still tied at 3-3 and went into extra innings when Little River blasted nine runs across in the top of the ninth to earn the final 12-4 first game victory.
Jaylin Millar had the only multiple hit game with two for the Lady Redskins while Addie Strecker, scored three times and both Millar and Kate Hendrickson came across home twice each. Little River recorded a total of six hits while earning six walks.
Kinsley Wohletz worked the mound in game one for the Lady Redskins and scattered six hits over nine innings and 171 pitches while walking just four and striking out 19.
Game two was a high scoring offensive explosion as Little River scored at least two runs in six of seven innings and held a 12-8 lead after three on their way to the final 19-14 victory. Trailing 19-9 heading into their final at bat in the seventh, Marion gave the Lady Redskins a scare with five runs only to fall short.
Jaylin Millar went the distance on the mound for the Lady Redskins in game two, throwing 168 pitches, giving up 11 hits, walking seven and striking out eight.
Addie Strcker and Brayli Teeters each had three hits in the game, with Kinsley Wohletz earning credit for three runs batted in to lead the Lady Redskin offense. Jaylin Millar, Bethany Sears, and Payten Harrington each had three walks while Teeters had a triple and Harrington recorded three stolen bases. Strecker scored four times and both Millar and Harrington each scored three runs.
Next up for the Lady Redskins will be a doubleheader at home on Tuesday with Ellinwood before closing out the week at Sterling on Friday.
