LADY BULLPUP GOLFERS LOOK FOR RUN AT STATE TITLE

It Was a Big Success!!!

MCPHERSON – One thing can be said, it was a great surprise when nobody saw it coming in 2022 as the McPherson High girls’ golf team began playing for the first time in history and managed to qualify for state.

“We are looking forward to our second ever season in program history,” pointed out Lady Bullpup head coach Treg Fawl. “We continued to get better each and every week last season with everyone being fairly new and we ended up qualifying for state. The first season of McPherson High School girls golf was truly a big success.”

Coach Fawl continued his reflections on the second season of Lady Bullpup golf by adding, “With all that being said, our expectations and mindset have shifted for the 2023 season. We have added much higher goals that we want to achieve as we have six out of our top seven golfers returning from last season. We have had girls working hard in the off-season to improve their games.”

For 2023, the Lady Bullpups will be built around sophomore Brodie Kuhn who as just a freshman made first-team all-AVCTL (Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League), placed at the state tournament and was named second-team all-Class 4A.

Senior Macy Rinker was named to the second-team all-AVCTL while sophomore Andi Buschbom earned honorable mention all-AVCTL.

Rounding out the five returnees will be a pair of state qualifiers in seniors Olivia Cheatham and Caitlyn Pearson as well as junior Reese Elliott who was a state qualifier alternate.

Concluding his preseason chat, Fawl finished by saying, “Our goals would be to compete at the top of our league, compete for a regional title, and be there on the second day of the state tournament after the cut has been made.”

The Lady Bullpup golfers open the 2023 season on Monday, August 28 at a 12-team Invitational in Derby.

Monday, August 28 = at Derby Invitational with 12 teams, 3:00 pm

Tuesday, September 5 = at Salina Invitational with 15 teams, 1:00 pm

Thursday, September 14 = Hosting Lady Bullpup Invitational with 12 teams, 1:00 pm

Thursday, September 21 = at El Dorado Tournament with 9 teams, 3:00 pm

Friday, September 22 = at Hesston Invitational with 19 teams, 9:00 am

Monday, September 25 = at Cheney Invitational with 13 teams, 1:00 pm

Thursday, September 28 = at Hutchinson Invitational with 25 teams, 12:30 pm

Tuesday, October 3 = at AVCTL Tournament in Derby, 10:00 am

Monday, October 9 = at State Regionals – TBA, 9:30 am

Monday/Tuesday, October 16/17 = at State Tournament – TBA, 9:00 am
