CANTON – The Canton/Galva baseball team scored a sweep at home over Remington on Friday, winning game one 10-0 before hammering home a 17-5 victory in game two.

In game one, the Eagles scored nine runs by the end of the third inning in getting the one-hit, shutout victory.

Andrew Huxman needed just 66 pitches on the mound over five innings in holding Remington to just one hit, no runs, one walk and striking out 10.

Leading the game with three hits each were Huxman, Gavin Robertson, and Ross Burrill, with Burrill getting a double, Robertson pounded out a triple and Huxman hammered out a home run.

“(Andrew) Huxman was really good on the mound in the first game,” noted Eagle head coach Seth Moddelmog. “He pounded the strike zone and challenged their hitters by keeping them off balance. Offensively, it was a strong game.”

In game two, the Eagles scored all 17 runs in the first  three innings.

Both Ross Burrill and Gavin Robertson worked the mound for Canton/Galva, giving up just a pair of hits, just one earned run and striking out eight.

Both Ethan Harrington and Noah Collins had three hits for the Eagles to lead the bats. Harrington and Burrill each hit a double and Robertson pounded out another triple. Both Harrington and Collins recorded three runs batted  in.

Concluding his reflections on the doubleheader sweep, coach Moddelmog said, “While (Ross) Burrill struggled on the mound with the strike zone, I liked how he stayed competitive and got out of several situations.”
